As the Trump administration reportedly eyes a hostile takeover of CNN, the legacy news network has announced a new partnership with the gambling — ahem, prediction — app Kalshi that will encourage CNN’s viewers to bet on world events while watching. The deal, similar to one Kalshi recently struck with CNBC, will see the network run live prediction odds on a “real-time news ticker” during segments ranging from politics and news to culture and weather — raising serious ethics concerns as some of Kalshi’s financial backers are also heavily invested in the current events that CNN covers, such as Israel’s war on Gaza. While Kalshi is legally prohibited from taking wagers on crimes, terrorism, and war, The Real News Network points out that the platform is currently accepting “predictions” on mass starvation and ethnic cleansing in Gaza.
